Y’all…. Bo is such a giant turd! He reached this point a while ago that he just hated his dog food. HATED it. Like his bowl would remain full for DAYS. He would just slowly sneak food from us or the kids. If we happened to leave a plate to go use the bathroom, to get up to get a drink, anything at all, he would just help himself right to it! He’s quick too! Like sneaky quick! And for such a large dog, his level of sneakiness really surprises us.
We finally decided that maybe it was just time to try a different food. I had heard good things about Purina foods, we actually have a whole pack of canned wet Purina food to mix with his old dog food to try to get him to eat it — he’d even try to dig the wet food out from the dry food! He’s hilarious, really. So we loaded up one day & took him up to PetSmart.
He had THE BEST time in there! He absolutely loves to go on car rides anyway, so the fact that we went for a longer than normal one (usually we just drive him to the local dog park or the gas station down the road with us and then back home) and then he got to come in the store with us… he was in puppy heaven! He was just grinning ear to ear as we walked by people, their dogs and around the store! It was pretty cute to see!
We headed to the dog food section & let him have a good sniff around. He settled on Purina® Pro Plan® DRY dog food so we loaded it up in the cart (by we, I of course mean David) & headed to checkout.
After buying a new toy (because we’re suckers) and donating some money to the animal shelter, we headed out the door & back to the car. After a quick stop to mark some territory, he hoped right in the car and took a nap on the way home. That little adventure wore him out!
Once home, we washed out his dog food bowl & refilled it with the Purina® Pro Plan® DRY dog food. We were happy with his choice because it’s made with real chicken, beef, lamb, or salmon and it’s the first dry dog food brand to use and be founded on the idea of real meat as the #1 ingredient to help promote total body health.
He scarfed it down happily! No begging him, no arguing with him, no mixing it with wet food! He happily ate the food he chose! I kid you not when I say that Bo is just like Scooby Doo minus the talking thing!
Oh and since we are here talking about this crazy pup, I thought I’d share a few of my go-to DIY dog toys for you guys.
If your pup is ANYTHING like ours, any toy you bring home is probably totally destroyed in less than a minute so I came up with a few easy (and budget friendly) toys that I thought I’d share with you.
Let’s start with the DIY rope toy.
Gather up some scissors & an old shirt.
All you have to do is cut that shirt into strips, gather them all up, tie a knot at one end and then braid the strips (I used chunks of strips to just do one big thick braid) and tie a knot at the end.
You just need an old sock & an empty water bottle (the crinklier the better).
Put the water bottle in the sock & tie a knot in the end to hold it in. I cut the rest into strips for him because he likes it when his toys are ratty like.
Sometimes when I make this one, I’ll also cut holes in the water bottle & put some dog food in there so that it smells yummy and he’s greeted with a nice little surprise when he rips it open!
Now that I’ve shared my favorite money saving tips for new dog toys, tell me what some of your best tricks are?
