This post should alternately be titled, How to surprise your kids with an amazing movie night OR That darn Elf!
Does your house do the Elf on the Shelf? We do. I had planned on getting the kids the new Minions movie but the other day I awoke to find that our sneaky little elf, Cookie had surprised the kids with some new pajamas, the new movie, and some other little treats to help them enjoy the release of the new Minions movie. Fin told me that I should thank Cookie for saving me the money on the movie. Ha!
I figured I’d let the elf have the win and keep their Christmas spirit alive! But, not to be outdone by the darn little elf that went to two different Target stores to find pajamas in the right size, I decided to surprise the kids with homemade minions playdough! Yay! They have been on such a playdough kick lately, Owen and Maddie especially. Occasionally Fin joins them, but he never sticks around for very long – 8 year olds!
To make this playdough, you’ll need:
1 cup water
1 cup flour
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1/3 cup salt
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
yellow food coloring
1.Mix together all the ingredients, except the food coloring, in a pot.
2.Cook over low/medium heat, stirring. Once it begins to thicken, add the food coloring.
3.Keep stirring until the mixture is much thicker and begins to gather around the spoon.
4.Remove the dough onto wax paper or a plate to cool.
5.Add more yellow dye and knead.
Store in a plastic baggie, old playdough containers, or some little plastic cups & decorate them like I did.
Are you pumped about the Minions movie?! Who do you plan on watching it with?
