With the start of the new year, David & I sat down and discussed changes to make in our budget, life, home, etc etc. We have TWO weddings to attend later this year & need to save like a butt ton of money for them. We changed our insurance a bit after we bought the house to something that gave us a discount for having house, car, and bike insurance all rolled into one. We changed around bill due dates to balance our paydays better. I decided to commit a bit harder to meal planning and grocery shopping. We’ve also decided that instead of gifts, we want to do experiences for the kids. They’re spoiled ROTTEN and don’t even play with half of the stuff that they have, but you take em hiking & they could be out there for hours. Experiences are greater than things. It’s taken us a while to realize that, but I’m glad we’re on the same page about it.
Also with the start of a new year, it’s important to keep track and up to date on your premiums with your insurances so you aren’t suddenly surprised by added fees, up’ed prices, etc etc. As you probably know, David’s in the Army so we have Tricare for health insurance and we are a part of the MetLife TRICARE Dental Program. (Changes coming to it’s premium on February 1st – see important to know these things! Check out the MetLife TDP Premium changes chart -see photo below)
MetLife TRICARE Dental Program varies based on the sponsor’s military status. (David is our sponsor. He’s active duty). And there are a few different types of enrollment: Sponsor only. Single enrollment – one family member, not sponsor. Family enrollment – more than one family member, not sponsor. Sponsor and family. When is the last time you checked on your monthly premiums? Seriously, it can make a huge difference – especially if you hardcore budget like we attempt to do.
