If you’ve been running a business from home or you are looking to challenge yourself, the best way to spread your wings is to unleash your creativity. But being creative is not just about writing in a journal or taking a dance class, but it’s about the little habits underneath it that can help to keep our brain sharp and steady.
Make A Creative Space
If you live a mundane existence and you’re trying to add some color or light to it, making a creative space is crucial. It gives you a place to be yourself and a place where you are allowed to do what you want to, to create or to destroy. Creativity is about trying and failing not just about painting pretty pictures! And creating a creative space is about giving yourself the implements that can inspire you. It could be something as simple as luxury stationery like a Moleskine notebook, which can make the art of writing feel a little bit more special than writing on bog-standard notepaper. Giving yourself that space to be yourself will help to unleash your creativity.
Follow Your Nose
If you haven’t done anything for a long time, it can feel strange getting back into a creative state. The most important thing is not to overthink it. Follow your nose. If you don’t know what you can do to unleash your creativity, the important thing is to stop thinking about it. One of the big problems many writers have if they haven’t done anything for a long time is that they try to make whatever comes out onto paper “perfect” the first time around. This is not what creativity is all about; instead, follow your nose and give yourself permission to fail. Whatever comes out of your brain, let it flow.
Feed Your Inspiration
You may have sat down and decided that you’re going to write a book or paint something, and this is a mighty pressure. You don’t have deadlines or targets, and when it comes to creativity, for a lot of people applying that pressure doesn’t yield a positive effect. You’ve got to be sure that you don’t inhibit yourself, but you also need to remember that if you are struggling to get inspired, you’ve got to feed it in the right way. This is why, for some people, the structure is crucial. Some writers get up every morning and vomit onto a piece of paper. They may go back to it and tear it up, but they’ve done something. And when you are going on your creative journey, you may want to think about the things that can open your mind up to new possibilities but also give consideration to those things that are hindering you. As soon as you realize the things that are stopping you, you can put those things to one side, and this will free you up for your creative journey.
Being creative is a wonderful way to feed our brains. And it’s a fantastic habit for anybody to have. If you’ve been thinking about ways to unleash your creativity, partly it is about letting your mind wander where it wants to go, but it’s also about ensuring that you are in the moment and enjoying it.
