Did you know that October is Pet Adopt Month?
We adopted a puppy last summer from the shelter, Lucy! You guys may remember her cute little face.
Last summer I with the help of some friends raised up the money to rescue Lucy from a shelter 2 ish hours away. The day we went to pick her up, I loaded up my car with blankets & toys and food I’d gathered up from thrift stores and friends and sales racks to take with me to donate to the shelter.
The kids loved her. I loved her. David loved her.
Bo however did not love her.
We ended up only fostering Lucy until we could find her a forever home (a couple with three teenagers that had been begging for a dog for a few years now had finally convinced their parents to let them get one). At first I was really sad to not keep her and felt bad about “giving her up” but the new owner kept me posted for MONTHS about how well she was doing.
It wasn’t fair for us to keep her with the way Bo acted towards he. He’d push her out of the way when we tried to love on her, he’d steal her toys, her bones, her bed, etc etc. He was just a big ole bully (punny because he’s a bulldog) towards her but I knew as soon as I received the first picture (a picture of Lucy sitting on her new bed enjoying the sunshine through a window, her own bed and eating her own little bone) that we had made the right choice in not only rescuing her but in finding her a forever home.
With that story in mind, I’d like to introduce you guys to the newest member of the McCain family, Sadie.
I’ve kept Miss Sadie a secret from you guys for a few weeks now because at first she was a trial run to see how she’d fit in with us, with the kids, with Crowley cat and especially with Bo. At first Bo was a bit taken back & Sadie was a bit shy but after the first few days, I knew she was a keeper! She can hold her own against Bo unlike Lucy. Sadie will sneak on up and steal her bone or toy right back from Bo, then go wiggle her tiny self into a corner that she know Bo can’t get to and just enjoy herself. She’s still in trial mode, but she’s pretty darn cute, huh?!
Since October is Pet Adoption Month, Pedigree dog food is donating one bowl of dog food to help feed sheltered dogs for every pedigree dog food purchased at Sam’s Club so naturally that’s where we headed to grab up some food for our pups!
(I’m a huge fan of good deeds as some of you may remember last year’s “52 weeks of kindness” challenge I gave myself).
Bo & Sadie bug love their special treat when we mix the wet food with their dry food! They gobble it right up!
They also love the Dentastix we grabbed for em. Just look at BoBo licking his lips! haha! And ignore the trash bag coming out of the cabinet behind him (Fin has just put a new bag in the can).
I also took a bag of pedigree dog food, some old blankets and some puppy toys to our local shelter over the weekend to help them out. They’re always in need of donations.
So what about you? Have you adopted a pet? Donated to a local shelter?
