Do you have any idea how hard it is to bond with a 6 year old?! I mean, Fin of course.
He’s our first child.
He’s into all things boy and legos.
If you paid attention yesterday, you saw that I took him out to see the Lego Movie.
It was cute but not my cup of tea.
David’s having the same issue.
Fin just wants to play video games all day everyday.
And I’m sorry, but NO.
Neither of us are okay with that.
He’s too little to give a crap about the basketball goal ( Like this one) he got for Christmas.
He loves the Skylanders SWAP Force
game he got but again, we don’t want him playing all day everyday.
He doesn’t want to spend all afternoon alone in his room building Legos and David and I just can’t do that. Neither of us have the time or patience or attention span to just build Legos.
So David would take him walking with him and Bo when they’d go out. He’d try to take Fin with to run errands but neither of those are fun for a six year old.
Finally the weather warmed up some and Fin got to put his Scooter to some use!
David realized how fun it was for Fin and decided to order the adult version and now they go scootering together! They hit up parks around here, parking lots and even just go around the neighborhood.
It’s been great for both of them!
David LOVES it.
Fin’s super happy that Daddy does it with him.
It’s a total win!
Since Maddie only goes to school half the day and Owen’s home with me all day except for Tuesday’s when he’s at Mel the babysitters house, it’s easy to bond with them. It’s easy to spend time with them, to spare a minute to color with Maddie or to cuddle with Owen but with Fin in school all day, he comes home and does homework, practices his guitar, plays outside for a bit, eats dinner, chills playing or watching cartoons with all of us and then gets ready for bed.
That doesn’t leave much wiggle room since they go to bed around 7:30.
I’m glad they found this little common ground.
And I’m glad I realized that we needed more us/Fin time.
If that means enduring 2 hours in a movie theatre with tons of (really loud) other kids, I’m okay with it because it means time with my first baby.
