I don’t know about you, but bad dreams have become a problem in our house! Owen wakes up a million trillion times a night (it’s really like 2 or 3, but it feels like more). I was whining to some friends about it, and one suggested I make some spray to help with it, so that’s just what I did! I whipped up some “bad dream be gone” and it’s solved all of our troubles! Okay, well not ALL of our troubles, but it really really has helped with our bedtime routines and I swear it’s helped all three of my kids sleep more peacefully.
It’s sooooooo simple to make too and the best part about it is that you could put whatever you wanted in it.
For ours though, I added some Eucalyptus oil and some Lavender oil and some food coloring to make it more fun.
The lavender helps relax them and the eucalyptus helps them breathe better. (And with the weird weather we’ve been having, we’ve all been dealing with stuffy noses).
I took an empty spray bottle, peeled off the label and scrubbed off the sticky stuff (rubbing alcohol worked great for that sticky mess, by the way).
I then filled the bottle with water, added ten drops of each oil, and three drops of food coloring. Daddy then takes it to the garage & adds some of that magic power that all parents have, but kids can’t mess with (wink wink) and DONE!
We spray it nightly around their rooms.
Once a week or so, I do an in depth spraying routine that seems to help them think it works better.
I start with a quick bed spray, followed by an overly exaggerated closet spray, then we close the doors REALLY fast and close our eyes & count to ten. If someone opens their eyes, we have to recount. Then they make their beds and I respray their beds and randomly around their rooms. They love it. They don’t understand it, but I think that’s why it works — kids love goofy!
You could literally do anything you wanted though, one spray, two sprays, no food coloring, no oils, etc etc. Whatever floats your boat, but this is how we did it and it’s worked wonders for my three kiddos.
