One of the biggest tests of our patience as parents is a kid’s birthday party. Some parents welcome the challenge, but others feel that they are letting themselves in for too much stress. Whatever your attitude towards a birthday party, what are the best ways to make it a smooth affair?
Buy Items, Don’t Make Them
You may feel that you need to save money by handcrafting perfect party decor. But if you spend a lot of time trying to learn how to make papier mache lanterns and make everything just so for your child they may not even notice the difference between handcrafted and store-bought! It’s far easier for you to go to a decor store like Just Artifacts so you can get everything in one place and make it a far smoother affair.
Don’t Bother Hosting The Party At Home!
If you’re trying to save your sanity you’ve got to keep your home off-limits. The only exception to the rule would be in the summer where you can have the party in the garden. But if you feel that there’s just too much potential for damage and kids running riot you may want to just move away from your house entirely! You could rent out a hall or a venue. Or you could just think about a different type of party, like a pool party. That way, you’ve got the opportunity to separate yourself from the anxiety if possible. Because if you have to clean up your home afterward this can be a mammoth task! Save yourself the anxiety and keep your home off-limits.
Do You Need To Provide Entertainment?
It all depends on the age of the child. When you’re hosting a party for toddlers they will make their own fun. But it doesn’t hurt to have some soft play items around the venue. It’s also a good idea to have your phone attached to a speaker so you can blast party tunes in the background.
Over Prepare The Food
One of the biggest stresses can be if every child has got enough to eat. It’s a good idea to prepare as much as you can before the party. This usually means all the food needs making. But you can very easily purchase a platter of sandwiches for cheap so you don’t have to worry about it. Just make sure that you are catering for everybody’s dietary requirements. These days children are allergic to nuts and some have a vegan diet, so get as much info as possible. Food could be one of those stressful areas but if you think about how much a child can realistically eat and aim to get 33% more, there won’t be any hungry children! And on the plus side, if you have food leftover, you have snacks for a couple of days!
In order to make a party run smoothly, preparation is vital but you’ve also got to think about the things that could very easily stress you out. Everybody is different so if you are really trying to calm down, think about making life easier by preparing as much as possible but also not bothering with trying to save money.
