Blood donation drops 20% during the summer. We don’t have enough As, Bs, ABs and Os. Did you know that every 2 seconds someone is need of a blood transfusion? 1 out of 7 people that enter a hospital needs a transfusion. When Maddie was born, I was almost one of them and it was really scary but made me really thankful for other people that took the time to donate. One donation can help 3 patients!
Once upon a time, long, long, long ago during David’s 2nd deployment I was a scared mom of TWO. I’d just had my 2nd C-Section and given birth to a beautiful little baby girl. Everyone was so pleased to meet this little lady. Her daddy even got the chance to call and check in on us from Afghanistan before going out on an 8-day mission. I was told I’d lost a lot of blood and may need a blood transfusion. At this point, it’s just me & this little lady & I’m trying to not panic. Everyone had left, I couldn’t call & cry to David. I was a mess. Thankfully, I ended up NOT needing the transfusion (phew) and we were fine and dandy, spent an extra day in the hospital and were good to go home. By the time I was able to talk to my husband again, the transfusion was a thing of the past & I’d already almost forgotten all about it.
You can donate every 56 days, up to 6 times a year. Take a step to donate at MissingTypeUS.org.
To this day, it makes me so thankful knowing that there were donations out there to help me in the event that I’d needed it. Blood is always in critical supply but it’s especially needed in the summer when donations typically drop about 20%. Are you a donor? Take a step to donate at MissingTypeUS.org.
