As parents, David and I are constantly trying to instill healthy habits in our kids. As a family we spend a lot of time outdoors, whether it’s hiking, swimming, spending the day at the zoo, or simply walking down the road to the library. We try to encourage outdoor activities and show that being active can be fun. Forced family fun where the kids end up actually having fun.
It’s no different when it comes to food. We like fun, but we also like nutritious. My husband and I try to encourage healthy choices. We keep healthier options on hand at all times for us adults and for the kids, it makes it easy to reach for the better choice if it’s right there. Getting your kid(s) to choose a nutritious snack can be a struggle, but it doesn’t have to be. Like, I mentioned in yesterday’s post I let my kids help pack their lunches without having to worry about what they’re choosing to toss in there. I have preapproved foods in a drawer in the fridge and in an old ice cream bucket (it saves space from half empty boxes) in the cabinet. There’s no argument about wanting such & such instead, because they get to choose what they want.
One of my favorite snacks to keep on hand for the kids are CLIF Kid® Zbars because they’re made with organic ingredients, that are crafted for kids’ developing taste buds and active lives. I love the CLIF Kid brand in general because they believe balanced and active play lays the foundation for a skilled, healthy, resilient and successful society. Play is disappearing at home, in school and in communities. Did you know that 70% of moms played outside when they were kids, 31% of their kids play outside today? I’m part of that 70% of moms. While we may lack the awesome backyard that I had growing up, we make the most of it!
Let me tell you a bit more about CLIF Kid Zbars. K?! K! They are Non-GMO, have important nutrients for active kids, they are appropriate portion sizes for kids and they come in flavors that kids love. Oh, and they contain no high fructose corn syrup, artificial flavors (or synthetic preservatives). Maddie chooses to eat breakfast at school (which works for me because I know her school aims for healthier options as well), so she loves the grab & go aspect of these bars and eats hers on the way to the bus stop.
Be sure to give CLIF Kid a like on their Facebook page to keep up to date with them.
And seriously, take two seconds (alright… it’s 30 seconds) to watch the CLIF Kid video.
