Home owning is exhausting. I feel like we are constantly updating something, even if it’s just a coat of paint here or there.
Today though, I thought I would share with you the before version (from zillow.com because I forgot to actually take pictures of it empty) of what this area of the house looked like followed by what it currently looks like.
It’s crazy how much a few coats of paint and different furniture can spruce up the place and make it feel more homely.
Also, redecorating does NOT, I repeat: DOES NOT have to cost a fortune.
The paint cost about $60 because we needed two cans since it was such a large room to paint (and we did up the hallway with the same color).
Ignore the chairs – cats and kids have destroyed them. It’s on my to-do list to recover them.
The wall below is our “command center”. A clipboard and chore chart for each kid. A tack board for important papers. And then a monthly calendar that I do plan on replacing later with a larger one.
This little wall below, I just love it. I picked up those drawers from Sam’s Club for $24! It’s PERFECT for extra school supplies, notebooks, crayons, coloring books, etc etc.
The little table, I picked up on sale from Target for $40 and it’s PERFECT as a desk for Owen, pair it with the $2 chair I found at a thrift store and done.
The black table under the window holds my photo props, family games, play dough and accessories, as well as whatever toys the kids currently have downstairs.
The black stand to the right of my desk and little bookshelf, I picked up at a thrift store and painted black. The vase on top of it was also a thrift store find that I added twine and flowers to.
My desk itself was $30 at Goodwill.
This is what I mean when I say that you don’t have to pay full price! It’s not too hard to decorate on a budget.
Ignore how messy my desk currently is. The gallery wall is full of various frames that I’ve picked up here and there. The Ms you see are also random finds – I’ve come across them here or there on sale at Michael’s or Joanne’s, etc etc. Add some paint to them and done.
As far as the stuff on the bookshelf beside my desk: I picked up the “every morning” picture from the Dollar tree. $1.
The little cream colored things I picked up for $0.25 from a thrift store.
The vase on top… it’s a mason jar that I painted and wrapped with burlap and twine.
The little blue vase on the 3rd shelf was a thrift store find that I painted blue.
The black shelves on the gallery wall were $2 at a thrift store and I painted them black to match.
What do you think?
Also, what’s the best thrift store find you’ve ever come across?
