Can you believe that it is already back to school time?! My kiddos have about a week still -give or take a few days. But I was so shocked to see a few of my friends’ kiddos starting up on August 1st. That just seemed SO soon. When do your kids go back? Are you planning road trips still? How many have you taken this summer? We only have one road trip planned for this summer, a 10 hour drive to visit some of our family in Oklahoma (where the wind comes sweeping down the plains). We do plan to hit up a few touristy spots along as well. In preperation for our trip, I loaded up the kiddos the other day & headed to Walmart to stock up on Road trip neccessities. Like, Dannon® Danimals®. We went with the Yogurt Smoothies Strawberry Explosion® 12 pack and a 6 pack of cotton candy. Maddie was excited about these purchases. Haha
(Photos not taken while driving). The kids love Danimals®. They’re not only great for road trips, but also lunch boxes & after school snacks as well. Danimals® are a staple in our house, they’re bought 2-3 times a month and the kiddos just eat em right up. Danimals® dairy products provide kids with a good source of calcium and vitamin D to help kids build strong bones and regulate muscle function.
We’ve taken them in our lunchboxes while our hiking (like this blog post). They’re just a huge hit no matter where we take them.
And we have taken them just about everywhere you could think of.
Fin loves em so much he barely makes it to his mouth — this happens often with this kiddo; he’s very messy. haha.
Aren’t most kids though?! Have you heard or purchased Dannon® Danimals® yet? If you’ve never heard of em, head here to learn more and to find out where you can grab some locally! Try them! Not only will your kids love them, but they’re perfect for road trips, after school snacking, and just everyday adventures in general.
Now, if you’ll excuse me – gotta go get a car tune up! Safe travels and happy snacking, friends.
Back to school season is upon us. Does anyone else feel like summer just FLEW by?! In the midst of back to school shopping, we like to throw in fun. Fun doesn’t always have to be costly. Fun can be as simple as a library trip or a park trip… or if you’re like us, a park trip on the walk home from the library. Have I mentioned I love where we live?! Not the busy town, but our actual house location. No matter what your idea of fun is, it’s probably going to involve snacks. EVERYTHING WE DO INVOLVES SNACKS. It’s like an automatic thing with kids. They’re ALWAYS hungry. A huge staple in our house is a big ole box of Goldfish® crackers. We usually have little bags of various flavors and then baggies of them premade to grab & go into lunch boxes or backpacks for after school snacks.
With back to school comes chaos and stress trying to budget in all the things you/your kids will need. So, it is especially important to keep things fun when live gets chaotic. It is not that hard to get involved and to keep things fun with your kids. Kids are SO easy to please and they’re only little for so long. You don’t get that time back. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to spend time. We live on a strict budget (especially now thanks to retirement).
If there’s more than one park in your town, pack a lunch and spend the day park hopping. Even if there is only one park near you – pack some Goldfish® as a snack and park your bootie at the park… chase your kids around, push them on the swing, play hide n seek… just set your phone down for 10 minutes and PLAY. That ten minutes won’t kill you and your kid(s) will LOVE the time you chased them.
A few quick reasons to love Goldfish® snacks:
They’re always baked with real cheese.
They contain no artificial preservatives.
The colors are sourced from Plants, such as annatto extracted from the reddish seeds of the Achiote Tree.
Baked with Whole Grain Cheddar variety has 12 g of WG per serving
Goldfish® crackers are a snack you can feel good about serving your kids.
Even on rainy days, encourage play. It doesn’t always have to be WITH YOU, I told Owen “Mommy’s in work-mode… Owen needs to play with OWEN” and he’s sitting behind me as I type this up playing with a dinosaur, mini trains, a police truck, and a stuffed animal. All while feeding his animal friend Goldfish® snacks & drinks of water. Before I started “work mode”, I helped him pack a little snackbox and he was all set for OWEN TIME. Because I explained it and helped him get settled, he’s totally content and good to go.
So, are Goldfish® snacks a staple in your house too?
How do you encouarage fun among the chaos?
Have you ever attended a Paint With A Twist class?! If not, you need to. Let me repeat… you NEED to! They are SO much fun! I’ve had the chance to attend three now (two in Georgia and one here in Colorado) and each time was just fun! You always start off a bit nervous, especially when you see what you’re painting. You think, “Oh gosh…mine isn’t going to look like that at all” but then you see the final result & all the sudden you realize how ridiculously talented you really are at bascially following directions and only using the colors provided to you. Haha.
There were fun photoprops to help pass time while we waited for others to show up and get settled in.
There were drinks to be enjoyed.
I’m really thankful that my sister remembers to take photos when I forget. All of these except the last one are taken by her. Thanks, Court! Last one is the group photo taken from my local PWAT’s FB page. I was lucky enough to attend with my mom and sister. The room next to ours was full of bridesmaids! Paint with a Twist is literally fun for all ages. If you look at the group photo, you’ll notice just that — all ages!
Our class was painting a Harvest Moon with a tree, and birds in the moon, and an owl on a branch.
At one point, Ceeleste (the enabler, not instructor) said, “And just add a tail if your owl looks like a cat”
See the kid across from me? He later told me I should probably go ahead and add a tale to mine. HA!
You’ll eventually reach break time — aka drying time — but don’t worry, they’ll help you pass that time as well with GAMES! Seriously, so fun! We played a version of musical chairs and had two winners! They even gave out PRIZES! One winner went home with a PWAT t-shirt and the other left with a coffee mug! Never a dull moment in sight.
The whole class is full of upbeat music and instructors. They even have a snack bar and offer drinks. You can not BYOB, but they offer a pretty good variety. I had an apple cider mimosa and my mom had a cranberry mimosa. They also offer snacks & soda & water – something for everyone.
If you’ve ever been to one, what did you paint? Did you hang yours in your house? One of mine is hanging in my daughter’s room, one got damaged in our last move, and the latest one is on the mantle above the fireplace.
So, if you’re looking for something new & exciting to break up the boredom, look no further! Head HERE and find yourself a Paint With A Twist class! You won’t regret it. PWAT classes are perfect for date night, family bonding, a night out with your girlfriends, or as a TREAT Yo’self night!
Now, I just struggle with where to put it! haha. On the mantle? Hanging in the dining room? The upstairs hallway? I have NO idea! I have a feeling it’ll get moved around regularly like everything else in this house. Haha. I get bored easily & love to rearrange houses. 😉
This post is sponsored by Bush’s Beans. All opinions are (as always) completely my own.
Bush Brothers beans are the ultimate versatile ingredient for creative recipes. <-- I firmly stand by that statement. Beans are so great to keep on hand for last-minute meal needs. They have been life-savers for us in this 90-100 degree weather (plus, NO AC! Hotter in than out!). A lot of our dinners lately have been made outside on the grill... if it requires the stove, it probably won't get made. And in the event that we decide to use the stove, it gets so hot that you lose your appetite anyway. That's no fun. So, my husband and I have been working on lots of none cooking side dishes to help us survive this Colorado heat-wave. We're SOOOOO close to "monsoon season" as it's called. Monsoon season is that time of year that Colorado gets SLAMMED with rain storms. I mean, scattered, hard, crazy, unpredictable until it's on top of you, rain. (I got caught in one last summer trying to drive the last 30 minutes home... 3 lanes of one way traffic and nobody could even make out where their white lines were. You just drove & prayed... a lot.. my hands were literally sore the next day from gripping the steering wheel so hard, you guys! SCARY! CRAZY!). But, until monsoon season gets here and cools us down, we'll be eating our non cooked sides. A lot of those sides involve beans - such a versatile little thing, the bean. A new favorite recipe of ours, is the easy summer salad I'm sharing below. To make this you will need:
Bush’s Garbonzo beans
Chop up your onion, your tomatoes, and your cucumber.
Simply toss in some olives, garbonzo beans, feta cheese and add some italian dressing. Mix and toss and serve. SO yummy. AND, the best part?! I didn’t break a sweat while making it! Woooooo! Yay! That’s a huge relief, really.
You could also try adding some grilled chicken to this to make a whole meal out of it, or throw it on a wrap with grilled chicken! Yum! I’m making myself hungry just thinking about this. I would literally sit and eat this as a meal itself. I love that it’s so easy to stretch your food budget by adding beans to meals, you guys. Grab yours from Walmart like I did and let me know how you like this once you make it. Slider burgers, summer grilling, and wine is a summary of today’s blog post! You excited?! Me too! CK Mondavi got a face lift & it is really pretty. (Insert heart eyes emoji here). It just hit stores starting in June! Maybe you’ve seen it already & didn’t even realize it, but next time you’re out & about, just pause and look how pretty. K?! Thanks. There are brand new flavor descriptors on the front of the bottles like “bright and fresh” and “rich and velvety” providing consumers with an easy way to identify the perfect wine for their celebration and make wine easier to grab on the go. Don’t you just love that?! I do!
Did you know that it was the dream of Cesare and Rosa Mondavi to offer wine to your family at a low price? And now the 4th generation of Mondavis are involved in the winery winemaking! Isn’t that just neat?! I think so anyway. I love knowing little tidbits like that.
I’m teaming up with CK Mondavi again this month to bring you burgers, buns, wine, and more.
Okay – well I’m not really bringing you any of that, but I am going to tell you how to make the perfect little slider burgers. Ready?!
We love to grill. It’s our go-to almost nightly in the summer especially when it ends up hotter in the house than it actually is outside. Cooking inside becomes a horrible, sweaty, grumpy task so we avoid it at all costs! Haha. That means a lot of grilling, which is perfect for summer anyway, so no major complaints from me (Plus, grilling means David cooks and that I don’t have to!)
Shape your little patties.
Add some salt & pepper to both sides.
Top with cheese if you wish.
Prepare the bun.
Add burger to bun.
Eat & enjoy.
We like to grill ours with flavored woodchips but that’s totally optional.
CK Mondavi is doing summer in-store promotions for burgers, buns, cheese and charcoal. Look for in-store promotions wherever you can find CK Mondavi and Family wines!

Hi, guys! It’s almost July, so I figured I’d pop in with a quick life update for you…
Life is good, but it’s still weird. It’s still definitely an adjustment. David suffers from cabin fever now that he’s home more which is never a good thing, especially when your wife is a homebody that hates last minutes plans and anything involving driving in this ridiculously overpoppulated town after noon.
Chores to earn screen time.
Milkshakes & Mom life (haha, no the bottom photo is actually just a picture of me HOT & thankful for a new fan)
Maddie’s fish died. I mean, the one we brought home from her school – that they grew in class. Fred died. Now, while we had Fred, we also had 2 other guppies & 2 goldfish — those all got toilet funerals. Fred however, got buried in the backyard & Maddie made him a tombstone.
I basically do nothing but laundry these days. I mean, it’s NEVER ENDING which is absurd because we don’t even really leave the house and it’s too hot to wear a ton of clothes. WHERE DOES ALL THE LAUNDRY COME FROM?!
Park trips with friends from preschool are super fun!
It’s also fun when Daddy & Fin take off down the road MID DINNER MAKING to hunt down the ice cream truck.
My friend, Melissa grabbed & mailed me this tank — isn’t it perfect?! I love it!
LEGO building is always neccessary.
Chalk is always fun.
Girafee feeding & then kids feeding themselves … Owen totally helped me make Brinner – he did his own eggs.
Park trips are a must when it’s almost bedtime, 1,000 degrees in your house & only 80 outside.
And when it’s Father’s Day but Daddy has college homework…. we go on early morning outings and play in sand and water, while David snaps photos.
Also, here’s the photo he was taking when I was taking his photo :p
That’s what life on our end has looked like + about a cajillion selfies because that’s what I do now. Haha.
I hope you enjoyed these pictures and this little peak into our life lately. And I really hope all is GOOD with you 🙂
