A while back, Monica was kind enough to send me two copies of her second book, Dark Rising.
So today I thought I’d not only share with you my review of Dark Rising, but also host a little giveaway!
Today you get the chance to not only win the second copy that Monica was kind enough to send me of Dark Rising, but I’ll also throw in my barely used copy of Dark Hope so you can start from the beginning! Yay! Are you as excited as I am?
“Can One Person Upend a Prophecy as Old as Time? Hope Carmichael is on the run. The only question is, from whom? The mark on her neck has branded her as part of an ancient prophecy, the Bearer of the Key. But the Fallen Angels have misunderstood and think Hope is their long-awaited way to regain Heaven by force. Now Hope is chasing down the artifact that could open Heaven’s Gates, while seeking to destroy it before the Fallen catch up with her. Will the Triad crime ring track Hope and exact their punishment before she gets the chance? Is the ragtag band of angels surrounding her now there to protect her, or imprison her? And will Michael, the Archangel sworn to defend Heaven at all costs, be forced to deny his love for Hope and take her life, instead, so that the artifact won’t fall into enemy hands? The epic narrative introduced in DARK HOPE continues in DARK RISING as Hope crisscrosses some of the most ancient sites in Europe and plumbs the depths of history in search of the truth about the Key, herself, and love. Exploring themes of identity, fate, jealousy, trust, and forgiveness, DARK RISING’s mythological scope and moral urgency deepen as we come to understand the choices and consequences faced by a young woman determined to follow her heart and chart her own destiny.”
I love that Dark Rising picked up right where Dark Hope left off. The second book was such a great follow up. I’m basically left waiting anxiously for the third book to come out, just to see what happens! The third book, Dark Before Dawn, brings the story back to the United States for its conclusion and will be released just in time for the Holidays! I highly recommend it!

I just wanted to thank you real quick for everything you create and put into stores to make the Holidays easier on me. You have no idea the amount of time and trouble you have saved me over the years! You have helped me create so many wonderful Holiday memories and treats that I have shared with my neighbors, the kids’ teachers, my mail people, my Starbucks friends, and many many more. I truly appreciate all you have done for me and I know all those people that I’ve delivered goodies to thank you as well.
Growing up, every year my mom would spend days upon days in the kitchen baking fun goodies for our neighbors, family, and friends and then we would load up baskets and bowls full of the tasty treats and we would spend a day delivering them to our loved ones. I still do this with my kids! It is just something that has stuck with us and it’s just honestly a really nice thing to do! It’s so simple and makes people SO happy.
One day last week while the kids were at school, I headed to Walmart to grab up a few tasty treats! I picked up Owen from preschool and we went home to get our baking on. He loves being able to help me out in the kitchen. I let him crack eggs and stir things and it just makes his day! When Fin & Maddie got home from school that afternoon, he was so quick to tell them that he got to help me make cookies. He yelled, “ME AND MOM MADE COOKIES” and then grabbed up two of them to share with his siblings. He’s sweet when he wants to be!
This year, I decided to make a special treats for the kids as well and I combined two of my favorite things – peanut butter cookies and fudge brownies! The result was AMAZING! They went on and on about how awesome they were! it was pretty cute until we went shopping the next day & came home to discover that Bo also wanted in on the awesome. He’d knocked them off the stove and onto the floor. They flipped upside down in their pan and I found them under our buffet table. I guess he scooted em around trying to flip it over until they ended up under there where he couldn’t reach them. I laughed. The kids were bummed though because there went the AWESOME treats.
They were good while they lasted though. Dang dog. Ha. To make them, I followed the bag instructions and cooked the brownies and threw the peanut butter cookies on top for the last 10 minutes. Easy, peasy!
My #SpreadCheer packages include fun little things like this mini nutcracker and these cute little Holiday hand towels I picked up as well as one of these printables. You like a cute little spatula tied around the bags and one of these printables

Happy Fri-Yay, guys! Do you have any big weekend plans? I’m not sure what we’re up to this weekend! We may head over and do some apple picking or we may wait another week or two before we head out there. Either way, I know we’ll be listening to Pete Scobell‘s new album, Walking A Wire on repeat! We’re basically obsessed wit him. Pete’s a bit new to the Country music scene! He is also an ex-Navy Seal (of 17 years)! How cool is that? It just makes me super happy since I’m obviously a big supporter of our Military!*wink* Pete’s album, Walkin A Wire just came out! Today though, you get the chance to win a signed copy for yourself! (Enter at the bottom of the post).
Pete Scobell also recorded a song titled “Hearts I Leave Behind” at the request of Taya Kyle, the widow of American Sniper, Chris Kyle. Wynonna Judd joined him on the song and it went on to reach #1 on the iTunes Country Singles chart earlier this year! Pete then donated all proceeds from the song to Kyle’s foundation! Isn’t that just mind blowingly amazing?! I love him more and more!
What are you waiting for? Go check out Pete’s page & enter below to win a signed by Pete himself copy of Walkin A Wire for yourself!! (Open to US and Canada only)
Oh my goodness, and before I forget…. Pete Scobell Band has joined with Orca Coolers to bring you ANOTHER amazing giveaway, for a cooler valued at $269.99!! Click here to enter to win!

In case you weren’t aware, Mother’s Day is RIGHT around the corner! As in like …. uh…. Sunday! (For some reason I thought Sunday was the 11th, but nope! It’s the 10th just in case you may have thought the same thing) Are you ready?! Have your shopped yet for the lovely lady in your life?
Owen and I went out last week and picked up a few things for my mom from Walmart.
I stopped by American Greeting’s One-stop Shop and loaded up on a few things to put together an awesome goodie basket that I know my mom will just love!
My mom is big on family! I mean we (and by that I mean, mom, my sisters, my brother and I) have matching tattoos on our foot.
JACKR. Can you imagine the amount of times I’ve heard, “Hey! Who’s Jack R?” *insert eye rolling here*.
So I usually just say, “oh! It’s my family’s initials… my mom got really sentimental on us all before I moved to Alaska, and my sister almost moved to New Jersey with her than boyfriend” and leave it at that.
And in reality, that’s not true but it doesn’t really pack much emotion behind it.
At the time of our tattoos (except Ryan, he wasn’t old enough yet but he did later go and get his done too).
J- Jody (mom)
A- Amber (me)
C- Courtney (sister)
K- Kayla (sister)
R- Ryan (little bro)
So right around the time I was prepping to move up to Alaska (after living a year at home) to be with David once he got back from his 2nd deployment, Kayla was getting ready to go off to college and Courtney was really considering moving to New Jersey with her (then) boyfriend. It was the first time we had all ever really not been close together. I mean, I’d moved to Nashville (2 hours from home) and I was living with David in Kentucky but even that was only like 5/6 hours away. Alaska though…. geez. And even when I was in Kentucky, Court & Kay were still home. All of us just leaving the nest around the same time just got us all a bit emotional — mom the most because she’s a total sap (she’s going to laugh when she reads this and I know she’ll just happen to skip over the bolded “don’t read this, mom” text at the top). So push came to shove, mom decided we all needed matching tattoos on our feet (our foundation — our roots), and what better to get than all of our initials reminding us of where we came from, right?! She’s sweet. It’s sweet.
We all joked for the longest time that Ryan would not go get one when he was old enough, but sure enough he did! He’s a pretty good little brother when he wants to be. :p
Anyway… here’s a few of the things I grabbed to put into Mom’s basket —
Chocolate because who doesn’t love chocolate?!
Home decor because she just moved to a new place.
The grandma pillow was picked out especially by Owen! haha. Have fun with that, mom!
A little notebook & pen because you can’t have enough of those.
And a card that made me nearly cry while standing in Walmart reading it.
So there you have it, all the things I put into a basket for my momma!
Are you headed to Walmart/American Greetings One-Stop shop now?! They have some super cute stuff and it truly is a one-stop shop!
And look at Owen and all the fun he had helping me shop! Haha! In the bottom left pic, you can see his new police car — that’s the same police car that went speeding through the store and getting stuck and lost under random shelves! Good times shopping with a 3 year old! Ha!
