School pictures came home the other day…. like a whole package of them and they’re like “Buy em or send em back to the school” and the very idea of them just getting thrown away was almost enough to make me drop the $9583763 on em (no) but instead, I snapped pics of em and sent them right back to school annoyed at the very waste of all of those photos.
But, you guys…. Look at my babies! *insert all the heart eyes here* They’re getting so big and I swear they just get more beautiful every day. Is that weird to say about little boys?! I don’t think so. They are beautiful. I made them. I grew them. I’ve managed to keep them alive. (with the help of David of course, but it’s MY blog so he gets left out a lot. haha).
I actually prefer my own pics of Fin though becase those freckles melt me, you guys. See here.
Otherwise here’s a fresh look at me. Haha. It only made sense to include one of myself (there’s an updated David pic below too). It’s been a while since I shared a post here. If you follow me on Instagram or my blog’s Facebook page (ambernmccain is me across all social media), you’ll see more pics there. I just forget to come here and ramble sometimes. I guess it’s just easier to share my quick post on Instagram stories or something instead of sitting down to type up a post. I know that sounds silly, but hey…
In other news, my baby boy lost a tooth. My tiny Owen isn’t so tiny anymore, you guys and man… my heart hurts. I’m so proud of the person he’s becomming, but this little milestone really just hit me hard. He’s growing up. It’s just weird knowing that he’s our last baby and there’s just no stopping him now…
But it’s hard to be sad when he RUNS out to greet you yelling, “MOM!!! DADDY!!!! I LOST MY TOOTH” and was just beaming ear to ear with excitement. The tooth fairy in our house brings a gift for their first tooth. He scored a LEGO Pokeball complete with a Pokemon inside. He’s pretty pleased.
David and I squeezed in a zoo trip sans kiddos the other day… mostly to enjoy the sort of warm weather and not be cooped up in the house, but we managed to grab a selfie with a tiger so that’s pretty cool.
That’s my ramble. I hope things are great for you guys! <3
My top three reasons for carrying Kleenex Wet Wipes…
Seriously, if you have kids… you need to go to Target (as if you even needed a Target run excuse *wink*) and grab some of these! They’re great for hands and/or face! They come in 3 packages: Gentle, Sensitive, and Germ Removal. With three kids still at home, you can bet your butt we go through so many wipes, tissues, paper towels, etc etc on repeat. These won’t break the bank, they’re totally budget friendly at only $1.49 each. You can totally order em online as well. Grab your Kleenex Wet Wipes here.
Jam hands are a real thing…. my oldest is almost 11 and he’s my messiest eater. He comes home with mustard stains on him and if sandwiches were made for lunch, I always know which one to call to clean up his mess. Haha.
Maddie is my neat freak. She likes everything arranged a certain way and gets really annoyed if you mess with it, move it around. She likes things neat and tidy, so I keep the germ removal wipes on hand specifically for her.
Then there’s Owen… this kid is just an all around mess. We keep a pack of wipes in the car at all times specifically for this kid’s face! I don’t know how he does it, but he constantly has stuff all over that face. He’s always been my messy faced kiddo… but man, we’ve reached new levels now that he’s a full time kindergartener. Markers, paint, snacks, juice, food, you name it… he’s wearing it on his face.
“This wipe smells goooooood, Mom!!!” – Owen, age 6.
“Okay, buddy…..whatever you say” -Mom, age 32.
Know that you know and have met my top three wipe carrying reasons, tell me about yours?!
They’re also great for our Colorado adventures – hiking, camping, snowboarding, even just park trips… they get tossed into a bag and even though everyone insists we don’t need them, we always end up using them. ALWAYS. I will never not carry wipes. They’re just HANDY!
You can find em in the Kleenex aisle, or pretend you didn’t read that part if you just need a good wander around Target.
Have you guys ever heard of Photowall? You may have seen me chat about this little DIY on my instastories It’s this neat little site full of wall murals and canvases. You literally choose your look and size and then it comes to you with the canvas frame to be built and put together. It’s so neat. You can order them with or without the DIY frame, but I thought that was just a fun added bonus honestly.
When it arrived, i second guessed myself and if I wanted to DIY it. It seemed like more work than what I thought originally, but nope. It was seriously SO easy to do. I took it down to the basement table, laid it all out and got busy.
About 10 minutes later, I came back upstairs with it and my husband asked, “You’re done?! ALREADY?!” I showed it to him, did an arm flex (haha) and told him to come hang it up for me.
Now it hangs in our bedroom and adds a pop of color to our very dark room. I love it and honestly just wonder how it would look hanging above the fire place. Maybe we’ll make that switch around and see. I’ll keep you updated though 🙂
Head over to Photowall and browse for yourself.
They’ve got tons to offer… from living room to kitchen to dining room to kids. I’m sure you’ll find something up your alley 🙂
Would you get the DIY frame or no?
This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Olay. The opinions and text are all mine.
Trying to hide that you’ve looked exhausted since 2008?! Me too! Mine probably started in 2007 when I gave birth to my first child. No amount of sleep prepares you for that. But today I want to introduce you to something that will help. Olay Whips.
Olay Whips is the unicorn of moisturizers. Not only does it hydrate something fierce, but it absorbs instantly into your skin meaning you can jump right into your makeup routine without having to wait around for your face to dry. It also continues to hydrate throughout the day for a dewy finish.
Olay Whips leaves your skin feeling wonderfully smooth. I’m talking like velvety smooth, y’all. It’s like a no primer, primer.
I’ve been using Total Effects.
It claims 7 skin benefits in one little tub: Actively replenishes nourishing moisture, evens skin tone appearance, enhances brightness, visibly smooths fine lines and wrinkles, minimizes the look of pores, restores firmness + visibly reduces dark spots. It is also formulated with VitaNiacin Complex II and Vitamins C & E to fight the early signs of aging. Winning, right there! Anti-aging anything is a win in my book. But the fact that it moisturizes as well, plus it’s totally budget friendly…. major win all around. Don’t you think? Do you currently have a favorite moisturizer and/or primer? Let me know if you’d try this & switch it up! I’m excited to hear why or why not.
You can get your Whips from Wal-Mart here #WalmartBeauty #AwardWorthyBeauty #FeelTheWhip.
Hey guys, remember me?! It’s been almost a month since my last post. That’s SO insane, but in reality, that’s how life works… my poor little blog has taken such a backseat lately to life in general and while I don’t really think that that’s an awful thing (managing stress, I couldn’t imagine life right now if I was stressing over this blog)… anyway, wanted to pop in today and share a bit of life lately with you guys.
David’s in school. The kids are downstairs watching cartoons and enjoying some hot cocoa while I take a few minutes to sync photos and type up this mini ramble before taking them down to the park to play in the snow. (Follow along on IG stories ambernmccain is me)
It’s been a long few weeks of lots and nothing. It’s weird, but I don’t have much to update with…. it’s the same day to day Doctor appointments with David, kids to & from school. College has started up again for David. That’s a headache in itself. Can you imagine being a 32 year old combat soldier thrown in a remedial math with high schoolers?! After watching David go back to school, I don’t think I have it in me to do it. I don’t think that I could do it.
Right after high school, had a free ride (with money back in my pockets every semester) and dropped out my second semester in. I wasn’t prepared for it. I mean, I was clueless… completely & utterly clueless. I don’t regret dropping out. I never really have. College isn’t for everyone. I just wish more people would see that before going & dropping a small (not small, rather large really) fortune on it.
We FINALLY took down the Christmas decor. Only because we were putting the house back together after deciding to postpone our move. If you’re clueless here, don’t feel bad…I hadn’t said much about it yet, but we’d planned to move this summer but decided it was in our best interest to postpone it a bit. It really stinks, because my goodness, this town is HUGE & we really aren’t big fans of living here anymore, but we need a bit more time to prep and plan for a move, and honestly, just staying put a bit longer is what’s best for us. Plus, cannabis has been THE BEST medication for David thus far, so in preperation of this upcming move tried to go a few days without to see how things would go and well… it wasn’t a great couple of days for him.
Ugh, anyway…. I almost titled this post “shooting, stitches, and snowdays” but that seemed weird….
But, on Friday about 5 minutes after we got home, we got a text & email — a reverse 911 call telling us to stay indoors…. and that there was an active shooter search taking place…. lovely, huh?! I mean, they sent out a picture of the area they were covering, and our house hit the little red line…. good times, good times. Thankfully, he was caught the next day but that was a scary & weird 24 hours.
That was quickly followed by an ER trip David needing 5 stitches after trying to start a fire. He’s fine, stitches get removed this week thankfully because one handed living is no fun. haha
Every now & again I spend a few extra minutes in the morning at the kids’ school after I’ve dropped them off. I bump into moms from when Owen was in Preschool and chat with them for a few minutes. I really miss the preschool days. 3 days a week, 3 hours a day. It was perfect for us. I’d still get some one on one time with Owen, and I’d get some morning mom chats in… now though, I barely see any of them and if/when I do, it’s in passing and ugh. Half of them don’t even go to the same schools anymore (big town) and it’s just bittersweet watching them grow up. But days that you run into your preschool bestie at the zoo makes life a bit more fun. 🙂 Always fun running into friends, but especially at the zoo.
That’s about all I’ve got for you guys today. Life is full of in and out of my car, driving back and forth from one end of this town to the other, and repeat. We did spend the weekend DEEP cleaning the house. That was nice. But come Monday morning, none of us loved that we’d wasted the weekend away like that. But, man…. Owen’s room, Fin’s room, our bedroom, the living room, the downstairs bathrooom, the laundry room, laundry, the cat box, the kitchen…. phew. 4 bags and a laundry basket full of donations after purging and cleaning some more. I don’t even know how we manage to have all the things we manage to have in this house, but thank goodness for purge days.
That’s my ramble in a nutshell. I hope life has been kind to you guys and I promise I’ll try to not let an entire month go by again before my next post/ramble.
Christmas 2017, also known as the stomach bug Christmas. UGH.
Christmas Eve started off with some donuts from Cookie the elf. And if you look carefully, you’ll see Maddie & Owen sprinkling reindeer food outside. Poor Fin opted to skip this part and stay in bed.
I’m not even sure when the puking started, but it started a few days back with Owen… moved on to Fin and to David, now it’s on to Maddie and I just know my turn is coming. It’s been awful. We haven’t slept, we haven’t eaten… a whole Christmas dinner just packed away in leftover containers that will probably eventually get dumped just because they’ll go bad before everyone feels better. Ugh.
After a night of throwing up, Fin thankfully felt a ton better come Christmas morning. We woke up slow and took it easy. David started a fire, I made some coffee and about 4 dozen muffins (because they’re so quick and easy). We opened presents and spent the rest of the day being lazy bums, vegging out to chips & dip, lil smokies and more before the sickness crept in again and nobody wanted real food for dinner.
Remember Sant shops from school? Well, we normally give the kiddos a few bucks to take, but this year they willingly spent their own money and my heart about burst from the sweetness of it. Here are the gifts they got me. Haha. Can you guess which was from who? They were SO proud of the gifts they each chose too.
Mug from Fin. Angel from Maddie. Keychain from Owen. (we all laughed when I opened that one. It’s attached to my purse now of course and that’s where it’ll stay til I switch purses or until it breaks because #momlife. haha)
This dragon… dinosuar thing… he’s been asking for a Yellow eyes (this version in yellow) for 2 years now. TWO YEARS! We’ve searched EVERYWHERE! (found originally at walmart, but then went MIA). Finally David found this on Amazon after repeat trips to walmart and target just to browse the toys…. took the kids to spend Christmas gift cards a few days before Christmas and wouldn’t you know it, David had to talk Owen OUT of buying this exact dinosuar/dragon thing because Walmart had finally restocked em. I about fell out of my chair laughing when David told me that he had to convince Owen NOT to buy the exact thing he’s been asking for for TWO years now. And the fact that after all that crazy searching, walmart restocked and it was there.
Either way, he now takes Fin’s red dragon (red eyes is his name) and pairs it with his Blue dragon (Blue eyes, duh) and they walk around the house growling at each other and scaring the cat and confusing the dogs, so it’s pretty entertaining.
Overall, aside from the sickness that’s going to be the death of me (I’m being SLIGHTLY dramatic, but only slightly… you guys haven’t seen the way this thing hits people), our Christmas was really nice. We don’t have any family local, so we didn’t have to places to be or people to see. We just enjoyed the five of us in all our sickness.
I hope yours was awesome.
I’m ready to undecorate now and get life back to normal.
Who else is ready for 2018?! *raises hand*
