Summer break is in full force around here. David only has two days of college this semester, so we’ve been squeezing in all the fun adventures on non class days.
We visited our favorite fishing spot over Memorial Day weekend, and phew it was packed. It was a gorgeous day, a nice trip, and a fun time… we just remembered why we don’t go do much on holidays – so peopley.
We have made lots of trips to the local library already this year with many more in our future. The kids have discovered that they can ask the lady’s at the desk to help them find books and put books on hold for us. Maddie’s new favorite thing is to check to see if any of our holds are in – even though I get a notification when they come in, we still stop to check every time we go.
We’ve already done a fair amount of hiking this summer as well. We even saw a rattle snake a few hikes back. I can’t remember if I mentioned that here already or not.
David turned 33 earlier this month and we “surprised him” with a renewed zoo membership and a zoo trip. Owen was SO excited to finally get a picture with the otters. Ignore his end of the year shoes. haha. You know it’s summer time when shoes have holes and pants are too short. Haha.
And Bo loves boxes as usual.
Otherwise so far our summer has been hot & lazy & absolutely wonderful. I hope your summer has been enjoyable so far. 🙂
School pictures came home the other day…. like a whole package of them and they’re like “Buy em or send em back to the school” and the very idea of them just getting thrown away was almost enough to make me drop the $9583763 on em (no) but instead, I snapped pics of em and sent them right back to school annoyed at the very waste of all of those photos.
But, you guys…. Look at my babies! *insert all the heart eyes here* They’re getting so big and I swear they just get more beautiful every day. Is that weird to say about little boys?! I don’t think so. They are beautiful. I made them. I grew them. I’ve managed to keep them alive. (with the help of David of course, but it’s MY blog so he gets left out a lot. haha).
I actually prefer my own pics of Fin though becase those freckles melt me, you guys. See here.
Otherwise here’s a fresh look at me. Haha. It only made sense to include one of myself (there’s an updated David pic below too). It’s been a while since I shared a post here. If you follow me on Instagram or my blog’s Facebook page (ambernmccain is me across all social media), you’ll see more pics there. I just forget to come here and ramble sometimes. I guess it’s just easier to share my quick post on Instagram stories or something instead of sitting down to type up a post. I know that sounds silly, but hey…
In other news, my baby boy lost a tooth. My tiny Owen isn’t so tiny anymore, you guys and man… my heart hurts. I’m so proud of the person he’s becomming, but this little milestone really just hit me hard. He’s growing up. It’s just weird knowing that he’s our last baby and there’s just no stopping him now…
But it’s hard to be sad when he RUNS out to greet you yelling, “MOM!!! DADDY!!!! I LOST MY TOOTH” and was just beaming ear to ear with excitement. The tooth fairy in our house brings a gift for their first tooth. He scored a LEGO Pokeball complete with a Pokemon inside. He’s pretty pleased.
David and I squeezed in a zoo trip sans kiddos the other day… mostly to enjoy the sort of warm weather and not be cooped up in the house, but we managed to grab a selfie with a tiger so that’s pretty cool.
That’s my ramble. I hope things are great for you guys! <3
It’s a cold December morning. 5 A.M. was the wakeup time. 6:30 if you’re under the age of 10 is apparently an acceptable Christmas break wake up. My children don’t sleep in. But, I’ve been up since 5 myself so….
Day 2 of our winter break was way less exciting for the kiddos than Day 1.
Flu shots & Lab work & video games all day sums up Day 2. It was a pretty decent day on my end though.
I took Maddie & Owen in for their 2nd dose of shot. Maddie held my hands tightly. Owen was totally brave up until it was his turn. I had to pick him up and set him on the chair and then kind of hold him in place while he cried. Poor kid.
Following that load of fun, we headed to the Air Force Academy’s hospital for lab work for me to check the pregnancy levels. Hooray, huh?! Doesn’t Day 2 just sound like LOADS of fun? If you follow me on snapchat, you saw last week’s bloodwork rant & how that went. (Cocky little young person… I broke his streak of November since he wasn’t able to draw my blood…. he redeemed himself last week, but my vein was destined to swell & bruise after being poked too many times in a short period). Well, yesterday guess who calls me back?! Yup. Cocky little guy again. He made jokes about who did that to my arm and thankfully managed to stab me only one time. HOORAY! (I have tiny and deep veins… tiny and deep. Getting poked only once it like a dream come true. Normally it’s at least twice. AT LEAST). So, he managed to get it on the first prick from my left (the non-bruised, but heavily tattooed) arm. We high-fived afterward because we both know how hard that is to accomplish with my veins.
Anyway, so a few hours later a nurse called me to tell me my levels…. TWO! My pregnancy levels were back down to practically nothing. I’m no longer pregnant which is a really weird thing to be excited to hear, but it means I’m healing and that’s a really good thing. I have a followup next week for the surgery and I should be good to go. I can’t even explain how much that phone call has put me in a happier mood. I was starting to feel better, finally but hearing that just was the icing on the cake. It’s almost done. I can move on. I don’t have to go in for lab work anymore, I don’t have to get pricked and poked a million times. I can finally heal. It’s bittersweet, really.
In other news, (again you’ve already seen this if you follow me on snapchat), I got my chalk markers yesterday! WHOOOOOO-HOOOO! I can’t even tell you how excited I was for these things to come in. I’d ordered this chalkboard wallpaper MONTHS ago and finally had the oomph to hang it on a weird cabinet wall in my kitchen. It worked out perfectly & now I’m dying to hang more, but all of our walls have those weird bumpy texture to them, so that’s probably the only place it’ll really get hung up, which is fine but I’m all hyped about it so it’s kind of lame at the same time. Anyway… chalk markers were delivered and I immediately ripped em open.
Doesn’t it just look FUN?! Yes. Yes, it does! And it is! And I’m still so excited about them.
I also came home to a sweet package from a super sweet friend.
I’ve never tried a LUSH product. (Don’t throw rocks at me!) so I about died of excitement when I opened this. It smells HEAVENLY!
Also, major props to LUSH for their packaging. The note was right on top, which means I didn’t have to dig. The wrapping was adorable and it’s recycled paper. That just makes me love them so much.
And that’s Day 2 in a nutshell, folks.
There are two things you should know about me before you continue reading today’s post… I like real, day to day pictures and I am such a procrastinator.
I feel like such a slacker every year when it comes time to mail out Christmas cards. How about you? Do you get them mailed out in a timely manner or are yours more like New Years cards?
Over the weekend Cookie the elf left a pile of construction paper for the kids and I to make our annual chain countdown. On the first day, he’d written “Do Christmas Cards!” (Haha. Thanks, Elf!) So that’s what we did.
We spent the morning working on our chain & coming up with the advent things we wanted to do each day to help pass the day and countdown til Santa comes. You should have heard half the things these crazy kids came up with. “Draw hippopotamuses with Santa hats!” (That’s what is written on December 16th’s chain).
Then once the chain was finished up, I gathered up our Christmas card supplies and had the kids get their coloring supplies. I’d ordered them a few cards of their own to color and pass out to whomever they wanted to.
So once I got them settled and they figured out who they wanted to give cards to (they even did one up for their bus driver which melted my heart that they thought of him), I busted out my little black address book, my phone so that I could text people for their address because my poor black book is always getting edited… Joy of having a bunch of Military friends, ha! Everyone moves… often. This year’s cards were SO easy for me to get knocked out because I’d ordered stamps, return address labels, and cards (with envelopes) all from Tiny Prints. One stop shopping right there.
This might be the earliest I’ve gotten them mailed out.
So, tell me… when do you mail out your Holiday cards?
Yesterday afternoon, I forced myself to get dressed, told Owen to get dressed and we packed up some snacks & drinks and headed to the park. We spent about half an hour at the park before the bus came, and we grabbed Fin & Maddie. Well, we chased them halfway home yelling their names before they heard us and we backtracked to the park.
They were pleasantly surprised by an afternoon at the park vs coming home to knock out chores. Total mom win. In reality, this momma was just STRUGGLING being cooped up in the house. Why not enjoy the weather before it changes again? Even thought it’s closer to the end of September, Colorado apparently thinks it’s still July. Highs hit 90 yesterday! That’s tied with a record from a cajillion years ago (I honestly just don’t remember. It was like 1993 or something, I could be way wrong though).
90 degress in September though is crazy for Colorado. Thankfully our weather seemed to get the hint… it’s supposed to drop later this week. (I’m talking 30s overnight this weekend)! We have good weekend plans though that now just include a fire in the fireplace! Score! I love a good fire in our fire place. David’s been doing a few here & there just to help imporve my moody blues over the past couple of weeks. (There’s been a lot of stress happening, guys…)
So, a nice park date seemed to do us all some good. The kids were SO excited. Dolores however gave me the stink eye as we WALKED past her. This is of course after Owen went to open the car door thinking we were driving. Poor Dolores. No wonder she’s upset. David took her to work today though, so that should boost her mood a bit. And the kids have dentist appointments later, so she’ll get driven more. (See here why Dolores the car is mad at me) (I’m also not sure how long I’ll actually refer to my car as “Dolores” so just deal…. K?! Thanks)
Day three of house arrest…. *sigh* I do actually have to get dressed and leave the house today (with David driving of course). I tried to convince him that I should just stay home & we both agreed that the kids would probably behave better if he were to go alone, but inevitably that poor man has no idea where he’s even going, so I get to go with…. Yay! (sarcasm)
My birthday present from David came in monday afternoon. A NEW CAMERA! Hooray!!! I’m obsessed with it. My big camera is 5 years (to me) old. It wasn’t a new model even when I ordered it. New camera has more Mega Pixels and zooming abilities than my old camera & phone combined. SO EXCITING! And it’s tiny, which is a big win for me since it’s easier to use than a giantly large one.
**POPSUGAR sent me this MHB to try. (Use code Shop5 for $5 off your first box).
Happy fresh new week, friends. I’m currently under house arrest. My DL expired yesterday (on my birthday!) and I went last week to get a new one only to run into a few snags, so need a new social security card before I can get a new Drivers License and David is working all week this week, so I can’t even get a new social until who knows when…. and then it takes about 10 days to get it in the mail. So, I’m temporarily under house arrest while life happens all around me (and Owen. Due to his age, he’s under house arrest as well, poor boy).
I saw Dolores the Car this morning just sitting in the driveway. She looked sad. So sad. It was like she was saying, “Amber! Drive me! Drive me and get your free Starbucks birthday reward! Drive me and take Owen to preschool, Amber!” and I’m just standing there shaking my head and drinking my coffee, telling Dolores to shut her dirty mouth.
My car doesn’t really have a name. Dolores just seemed appropriate for the story.
In our downtime, the kids like to make their own costumes. This was Owen’s that Fin is wearing. I cut the eyes for him.
We also FINALLY headed to Famous Dave’s to get our birthday dinners. This restaurant has become our go-to for birthday celebrations. Since we didn’t get to go for Fin’s birthday (because we were all dying from back to school germs), we combined it and both got desserts!
He ordered a banana pudding and I got a hot fudge sundae. Maddie and Owen devoured the sundae for me. Fin offered out a few bites of his, but for the most part ate it all by himself. He also go ballsy and decided to use some Famous Dave’s hot sauce and see how long he could go without drinking water. (Snapchatters, you probably saw this. Follow me here if you don’t already)
Sunday was my birthday. David had to work, go figure. But we enjoyed a lazy day at home. Maddie gave me a pedicure.
The kids cleaned the house for me and helped make me a cake. Maddie helped make it, I frosted it, the boys decorated it.
The Bronocs won, we ate Buffalo Chicken Quesadillas for dinner, and went to bed early. Yay!
Whatever David ordered me for my birthday should be in today, so I’m super pumped to see what that’s gonna be! He says I can’t open it until he gets home though…. Fingers crossed for an early day, guys! Haha. Or a late mail day. 😉
